Islamabad (Big Digit):Federal Minister for Defence Production Barrister Raza Hayat Hiraj has taken notice of the decades-long delay in transferring 100 kanals of award land to Subedar (retd) Muhammad Ameer, a 90-year-old veteran of the 1971 war, and has requested an immediate report from the Deputy Commissioner of Khanewal.

According to official sources, Subedar (retd) Ameer had shot down five enemy aircraft while serving at the Shorkot Airbase during the 1971 war. In recognition of his bravery, the Government of Pakistan allotted him 100 kanals of agricultural land. Despite the property remaining under his possession, the formal ownership rights have not been transferred to him for over 45 years.

Sources added that the elderly veteran had been visiting revenue offices for years to secure his ownership documents, but the matter was repeatedly delayed by field staff without any substantive progress.

After the issue was brought to his attention, Minister Hiraj directed Deputy Commissioner Khanewal Dr Salma Suleman to personally review the case, verify all relevant records, and submit a detailed report. He further instructed that the matter be resolved promptly, ensuring that the veteran receives his due rights.

“Individuals like Subedar Muhammad Ameer are a source of national pride. It is the responsibility of the state to honour their service with dignity,” the minister said.

Leaders of the Ex-Servicemen Society — including Gen (retd) Yaqoob Ali Khan, Brig (retd) Asim Nawaz Khan, and Brig (retd) Mukhtar Hussain — welcomed the minister’s intervention and proposed establishing a dedicated cell to address land and welfare issues faced by war veterans and decorated ex-servicemen.
