ISLAMABAD (Big Digit) Pakistani Olympic gold medalist and javelin throw star Arshad Nadeem brings Pakistan gold medal in Asian Athletics Championship; President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated him.
It should be noted that Arshad Nadeem had never won any medal in Asian Athletics Championship before.
He had participated in these competitions in 2017 and 2019, but at that time he could not cross the 80-meter mark.
Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem won the men’s javelin final at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, with a throw of 86.40m. India’s Sachin Yadav won the silver medal with a throw of 85.16m, while Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama won the bronze medal with a throw of 83.75m. After taking the lead in a few early throws, Sri Lanka’s Romesh Tharanga Pathirje finished fourth with a throw of 83.27m, missing the podium. Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan finished eighth with a throw of 75.39m, while India’s Yashvir Singh finished fifth with a personal best of 82.57m. China’s Hu Hao Ran finished sixth with a throw of 80.93m, while Sri Lanka’s Sumedha Jagat Ranasinghe Madyansilage finished seventh with a throw of 79.81m. After the final, Arshad Nadeem’s coach Salman Butt said it was a good performance, especially since it was his first competition of the season. The coach said that if there had been a day’s break between yesterday’s heats and the final, he would have been able to recover better and the throw could have been better, but it is a good start.

Arshad Nadeem, who holds the Olympic record with a huge throw of 92.97m at Paris 2024, narrowly missed breaking the Asian Championships record of 86.72m. He started the competition a bit slowly, throwing 75.64m and 76.80m in his first two attempts, then taking the lead with a throw of 85.57m in his third attempt. He then threw 83.99 and 83.44 meters, and finally won the gold medal with a brilliant throw of 86.40 meters in his sixth and final attempt.
When Arshad Nadeem first entered the field, all eyes were on him, and the spectators were waving Pakistani flags. The stadium was filled with chants of ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’, and the fans were eagerly waiting for the big throw of the javelin superstar, who was competing at the international level for the first time since last year’s Paris Olympics. Yesterday, Nadeem easily qualified for the final with a brilliant throw of 86.34 meters in his first and only attempt. After qualifying for the final, Arshad Nadeem wrote on Instagram that as always, your prayers and support are needed. This gold medal of Arshad Nadeem is Pakistan’s first and only medal in the Asian Championship. Earlier, Pakistan’s fastest female athlete Tamim Khan finished 17th in the women’s 100m heats with a time of 12.14 seconds.
