ISLAMABAD (Big Digit) Piyass International, a human rights organization, has praised Islamabad Police for taking action against a ‘sheesha cafe’ in F-7 Markaz – the posh area of the city. During the raid, 16 people were arrested and a large quantity of drugs were recovered.
In a message of appreciaton for the bold step of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi and other senior officers particularly Kohsar Police Station’s SHO Mian Khurram, Piyass International Chairman, Rana Imran Latif termed the raid a welcome move against the powerful individuals who had long been encouraging use of drug among youth.
He expressed hope that the police would continue cracking down on all such cafes without any discrimination, which are the ‘nurseries of drug abuse’.
He also raised questions on the performance of district administration which had not acted against these cafes earlier, despite pointation from the civil society, court orders, and thousands of public complaints through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU).
Rana Imran Latif emphasized that only the district administration and federal police can successfully implement the special campaign – Drugs No More – of the IG Islamabad against these cafes which are working as the dens of criminals.
