Islamabad (Big Digit) Islamabad health authorities have issued an advisory following early signs of increased seasonal influenza activity and rising community transmission. According to Dr. Syeda Rashida Batool, District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad, the situation demands heightened vigilance, strengthened surveillance, and timely preventive measures across all healthcare facilities.
Seasonal influenza spreads through respiratory droplets, aerosols, and contact with contaminated surfaces. Elderly individuals, children under five, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, immunocompromised persons, and overweight individuals are at higher risk of severe illness.
Dr. Syeda Rashida Batool advised residents to practice hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded places, ensure proper ventilation, avoid close contact with sick individuals, and seek prompt medical care in case of fever, cough, breathing difficulty, or chest pain. She also emphasized seasonal influenza vaccination, particularly for high-risk groups and healthcare workers, and directed health facilities to enhance ILI and SARI surveillance.
