Islamabad (Big Digit) The Commissioner for Compensation to Workers has issued a decision in the case filed by the Schlumberger Workers Union, ordering the payment of outstanding dues to workers employed at Schlumberger.
On this occasion, the General Secretary of the Pakistan Workers Federation Asad Mehmood, General Secretary of the All Pakistan Schlumberger Workers Union, Malik Abdul Hameed, and other officials said in a joint statement that justice-based decisions from the courts certainly strengthen the labour movement and bring prosperity to workers.
They said that they had fought a long legal battle spanning two years and struggled for workers’ rights, in which, by the grace of Allah, they were successful. The court has issued orders for the payment of more than 1.1 million rupees in outstanding dues.
They further stated that although labor laws exist in Pakistan, the lack of implementation is weakening the labor movement. The purpose of the Pakistan Workers Federation is the welfare of workers and the protection of their rights, for which they believe in continued struggle. God willing, they will continue to fight for the resolution of workers’ issues in the future so that workers can be assured of their rights, benefits, and facilities.
