Islamabad (Big Digit) In the annual elections of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) for the year 2025-2026, Kazim Khan of Daily Dunya and Ghulam Nabi Chandio of Daily Pak were elected unopposed as Secretary General, while Senior Vice President Ayaz Khan, Deputy Secretary General Tanveer Shaukat, Finance Secretary Hamid Hussain Abidi, Information Secretary Zia Tanoli, Vice Presidents Qazi Asad Abid, Adnan Zafar, Yahya Khan Saduzai, Mian Hassan Ahmed, Munir Ahmed Baloch, Joint Secretaries Tahir Farooq, Munza Saham, Rafi Niazi, Arif Baloch, Waqas Tariq Farooq were elected.
Other members of the Standing Committee elected unopposed include members Dr. Jabbar Khattak, Ikram Sehgal, Akmal Chauhan, Babar Nizami, Maqsood Yousufi, Sher Muhammad Khawar, Sardar Muhammad Siraj, Mudassar Iqbal, Muhammad Owais Razi, Shahzad Amin, Irfan Athar, Shakeel Ahmed Turabi, Tazeen Akhtar, Anwar Sajidi, Mumtaz Ahmed Sadiq, Faqir Minthar Mangreo, Abdul Rehman Mangreo, Dr. Zubair Mahmood, Masood Khan, Fazal Haq, Zulfikar Ahmed Rahat, Ali Ahmed Dhillon, Aamir Mahmood, Syed Intizar Hussain Zanjani, Aslam Mian, Hamza Ali Afghan, Ayaz Memon, Mudassar Alam and Mahmood Alam Khalid are among them.
Newly elected President Kazim Khan expressed his determination to protect Pakistan’s journalistic borders through truthful and verified news in the meeting of the Standing Committee and added that CPNE will continue its resistance against the misuse of the PECA Act. He said that the rulers must understand the difference between insult and criticism and must practice fair distribution of advertisements. On the occasion of the annual general meeting, the House condemned India’s unilateral move to terminate the Indus Waters Treaty based on a fake incident in Pahalgam and termed it a blatant violation of international law. In a resolution, it also condemned India’s creation of war hysteria and creating threats to the lives and property of more than two billion people in the region and termed the Indo-Pak tension as a threat to the entire world.
The meeting was informed that the government, while holding the role of Pakistan’s print, electronic and digital media responsible, has admitted that the media has thwarted Indian propaganda by presenting the national narrative effectively. In this regard, a resolution demanded from the government that after this admission, all laws contrary to freedom of expression should be repealed and media freedom should be ensured.
