Peshawar (Big Digit)- The vital Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been shut down, halting transit and bilateral trade, as tensions flare over construction on the Afghan side. Pakistani officials claim the activity violates agreed-upon border regulations, prompting the sudden closure late Friday. Eyewitnesses report long queues of cargo trucks stranded on both sides, their drivers left in limbo as authorities remain tight-lipped. Afghan officials have yet to comment on the situation, fueling speculation about the nature of the dispute. Both nations have a long-standing agreement prohibiting construction near the border. Just days ago, tensions escalated when Afghan border forces allegedly fired shells into Pakistan’s Mohmand district, triggering a deadly exchange of fire. Casualties were reported on both sides, further straining the already fragile relationship between the neighboring countries. As the standoff continues, traders and transporters anxiously await a resolution, fearing prolonged economic losses and further instability in the region.
